Paramore: Now

The drama at work has came to a climax, it’s kind of crazy.

I wish things can end like that (just watch, to the end :)) –

I didn’t quite recognize Hayley at first because of the makeup and her new cut bangs. I thought Paramore had a different singer! Haha. Cheesy ending? But that little twist, that was interesting ;)

Daniel Waples and the hang drum

A friend of mine shared this video on youtube. On first glance, I thought ‘what a weird looking musical instrument’! It looks like a covered chinese cooking wok, with indents. Or well, a UFO spaceship :p

Then I played the video and was surprised by the beautiful sounds it produced . And went to the website to find another video without the noises from the busy street in the earlier video…

The musician’s name is Daniel Waples :) You can check out his website here.

King and Lionheart

(This is going to be a Merlin fangirl post, just so you know :p)

I finally watched the last episode of Merlin yesterday on cable. I’ve only caught 2 episodes of season 5 so far, and truth be told, the series was getting a little draggy for me. So I decided to watch the final episode because I was curious what the actual ending was. I knew it wasn’t going to be happy, having follow the Merlin page on Facebook – when the last episode aired on 24 Dec, there was a hurricane of mixed reviews on comments. But it still piqued my interested, because a friend hinted that it wasn’t that bad an ending.

I wished they did Merlin’s magic reveal much earlier in season 5. Arthur had only 1 episode to deal with feeling betrayed, and then accepting that Merlin was a good friend helping him all along despite being a sorcerer. The ending was sad, because I feel for Merlin – how many friends had he put to rest at the same place? And that all he worked for just seem to be for nothing?

I share my friend’s sentiments that the ending wasn’t that bad, considering the fact that the writers had to end the show after BBC decided not to continue for a sixth season. It ended on a sad note, yet at the same time there is still that glimmer of hope that not all is lost ;)

I came across Of Monsters and Men a while back, and fell in love with the song Little Talks. Yesterday, I chanced upon King and Lionheart while reading a few Merlin blogs. Oh, how this song describes the relationship between the Arthur and Merlin so well.

(Now excuse me while I go read more fanfics that aren’t so sad…)

Taking over this town, they should worry,
But these problem aside I think I taught you well.
That we won’t run, and we won’t run, and we won’t run.

And in the winter night sky ships are sailing,
Looking down on these bright blue city lights.
And they won’t wait, and they won’t wait, and they won’t wait.
We’re here to stay, we’re here to stay, we’re here to stay.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
A lion-heart.

His crown lid up the way as we moved slowly
Pass the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind.
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We’re still the same, we’re still the same, we’re still the same.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And in the sea that’s painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And as the world comes to an end
I’ll be here to hold your hand
‘Cause you’re my king and I’m your lion-heart.
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And in the sea that’s painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart

It’s Time – Imagine Dragons

I’ve not been listening to the radio since 12 years ago. I did try once a few years back, one of the more popular channels in Singapore, but I switched it off 30 seconds after it blasted noisy altered sounds of instruments and voices into my ears.

From then on, I’ve been discovering music online. Finding music from blogs I read, or just random YouTube surfing, then following artists and bands I like on facebook. It’s been a fun  journey because it’s always such a joy to find music that you can relate to, music with melodies that simply stick with you, make you sit back and smile / cry / reminisce / think…

Sometimes I do stumble upon popular songs by accident, and only know about it when someone talks about it, or I hear it popping up everywhere :P

I’ve chanced Imagine Dragons from Joshua from the Minimalist while reading his post one night. This song and video made me smile.  It must be the beat and the mandolin singing so happily! ;)

So this is what you meant
When you said that you were spent?
And now it’s time to build from the bottom of the pit right to the top
Don’t hold back
Packing my bags and giving the Academy a rain check

I don’t ever wanna let you down
I don’t ever wanna leave this town
‘Cause after all this city never sleeps at night

It’s time to begin, isn’t it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I’ll admit
I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand?
I’m never changing who I am

So this is where you fell
And I am left to sell
The path to Heaven runs through miles of clouded Hell right to the top
Don’t look back
Turning to rags and giving the commodities a rain check

I don’t ever wanna let you down
I don’t ever wanna leave this town
‘Cause after all this city never sleeps at night

It’s time to begin, isn’t it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I’ll admit
I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand?
I’m never changing who I am

It’s time to begin, isn’t it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I’ll admit
I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand?
I’m never changing who I am

This road never looked so lonely
This house doesn’t burn down slowly
To ashes!
To ashes!

It’s time to begin, isn’t it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I’ll admit
I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand?
I’m never changing who I am

It’s time to begin, isn’t it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I’ll admit
I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand?
I’m never changing who I am

2013 with the Eighth Note

First meeting and jam session of 2013 :) Plans for growing the musician group that Beverly is managing, plans for the long term that involves originals and charities, plans for helping each other improve. There’s still much details that need to be worked out, but it was a thoughtful start for the year. That and it was nice to be in the studio with everyone again! The last time we were here was in early December. Everyone was busy with their own plans near Christmas so the jamming stop a while…

On another note, I couldn’t resist testing out the new lens I bought from Hazel’s husband Andrew. It’s the Panasonic Lumix 20mm f1.7 ;)
