King and Lionheart

(This is going to be a Merlin fangirl post, just so you know :p)

I finally watched the last episode of Merlin yesterday on cable. I’ve only caught 2 episodes of season 5 so far, and truth be told, the series was getting a little draggy for me. So I decided to watch the final episode because I was curious what the actual ending was. I knew it wasn’t going to be happy, having follow the Merlin page on Facebook – when the last episode aired on 24 Dec, there was a hurricane of mixed reviews on comments. But it still piqued my interested, because a friend hinted that it wasn’t that bad an ending.

I wished they did Merlin’s magic reveal much earlier in season 5. Arthur had only 1 episode to deal with feeling betrayed, and then accepting that Merlin was a good friend helping him all along despite being a sorcerer. The ending was sad, because I feel for Merlin – how many friends had he put to rest at the same place? And that all he worked for just seem to be for nothing?

I share my friend’s sentiments that the ending wasn’t that bad, considering the fact that the writers had to end the show after BBC decided not to continue for a sixth season. It ended on a sad note, yet at the same time there is still that glimmer of hope that not all is lost ;)

I came across Of Monsters and Men a while back, and fell in love with the song Little Talks. Yesterday, I chanced upon King and Lionheart while reading a few Merlin blogs. Oh, how this song describes the relationship between the Arthur and Merlin so well.

(Now excuse me while I go read more fanfics that aren’t so sad…)

Taking over this town, they should worry,
But these problem aside I think I taught you well.
That we won’t run, and we won’t run, and we won’t run.

And in the winter night sky ships are sailing,
Looking down on these bright blue city lights.
And they won’t wait, and they won’t wait, and they won’t wait.
We’re here to stay, we’re here to stay, we’re here to stay.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
A lion-heart.

His crown lid up the way as we moved slowly
Pass the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind.
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We’re still the same, we’re still the same, we’re still the same.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And in the sea that’s painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And as the world comes to an end
I’ll be here to hold your hand
‘Cause you’re my king and I’m your lion-heart.
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
And in the sea that’s painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you’re a king and I’m a lion-heart.
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart
A lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart, a lion-heart
